How ‘Cones by Cally’ Began

My name is Cally and the original intention was never to start my own business…

The origins of ‘Cones by Cally’ began with the similarly named ‘Cards by Cally’.

Way back in 2006, I had just got engaged to the man who is now my husband; Dave.  I did the same as most newly engaged and I tried to find everything that I wanted for my wedding.  I had an idea in mind, a booklet-style invitation, but I couldn’t find them anywhere at a reasonable price.  In the end I gave up looking as I couldn’t find any that were just right for me. That is when I decided to make my own. After my wedding, friends of mine started to ask me where I got my invitations, and then asked me to make their invites. Next thing I knew, their friends were asking me to make their invites as well. By the following year, word of mouth had spread and I was making invitations for people I had never met before. This was the beginnings of ‘Cards by Cally’.

A family-run business, we went from strength to strength until Covid came into the world and everything just stopped.  While I was fortunate not to lose anyone really close to me during that time, all weddings, and therefore all work stopped.  Coming out of Covid, it was a situation of adapt or give-up. I am not one to give up easily though!

A chance post on a local Facebook page in May of 2021 is what steered Cards by Cally into a new direction.  A lady asked about sweet cones for her daughter’s birthday party.  I had made some on a number of occasions as wedding favours for my clients, and I offered to help her out.  Following the party, 2 other mums asked me to make some for their children as well. The next thing I know I am receiving more requests for sweet cones than for wedding stationery.  Shortly afterwards I accepted my last wedding client.

I am now delighted to focus solely on the sweets, knowing that every sweet cone or bag that I make is a smile on a face. It makes it one of the most rewarding things that I have ever done.

In November 2022, ‘Cards by Cally’ officially changed to ‘Cones by Cally’, and I am delighted that so many of my wonderful wedding clients have returned to purchase sweet cones from me for their new families.  From childrens’ parties, to wedding favours, to corporate events.  I, and my family, are delighted to help put smiles on the faces of you and your guests.

Wishing you all the best, Cally

Our Environmental Impact

We understand the impact that using plastic products has on the environment.  That is why we only use plastic-type 5 for our cones, so they can be recycled along with your household waste.  We have also introduced the paper sweet bags in a variety of colours, so that you have a realistic alternative to the plastic cones.

Every aspect of our business uses recycled materials where possible.  Our empty sweet boxes are given to local playschools and crafting groups.  While we will reuse packaging where we can to try and prevent anything going into landfill, any packaging that we buy in takes the environment into consideration.  You may notice a slight green tinge to our bubble-wrap.  That is because it is both recyclable and biodegradable.
